My friend Karen Healey, who is busy working on her PhD in Cultural Studies, has managed to write and sell her first novel while all this is going on. Guardian of the Dead, a young adult modern fantasy novel grounded in Maori myths and (unsurprisingly) set in New Zealand, will be released in 2010.
